Random House Books for Young Readers has announced the summer publication of Thank You, Helpers: Doctors, Teachers, Grocery Workers, and More Who Care for Us, a picture book honoring those who are making vital contributions to the lives of children and adults during the Covid-19 crisis. Featuring a rhyming text by Patricia Hegarty and illustrations by Michael Emmerson, Thank You, Helpers is being edited by associate editor Tricia Lin. The title is due out in ebook format on May 26 and in paperback on June 30, and will be published in partnership with Little Tiger Books in the U.K.
In conjunction with the book’s publication, Random House Children’s Books will make a donation to Americares, a global health-focused relief and development organization that is currently providing critically needed protective supplies, training, and emotional support for health workers worldwide.
“Thank You, Helpers celebrates the heroic efforts of essential workers everywhere who keep us safe and healthy all the time, and especially now during the crisis we are facing,” RHCB president and publisher Barbara Marcus said in a statement. “The book provides an important opportunity for families to talk about the role of, and express their appreciation for, the many helpers in their communities.”
Christine Squires, president and CEO of Americares, the world’s leading nonprofit provider of donated medicine and medical supplies, expressed gratitude for the publisher’s timely financial contribution to her organization’s efforts. “Now more than ever, health workers need our support,” she said. “Random House’s generous donation will allow us to provide more protective gear and training to keep these brave men and women safe and supported during this difficult time.”
