I’m Not Small by Nina Crews. Greenwillow, $17.99 (32p) ISBN 978-0-06-305826-2. Crews renders her story of a kid finding his place in a variably sized world through sketched, textural digital collage whose lens zooms in and out to portray moments of adventure, exploration, and safety in the wide world.

Louisa June and the Nazis in the Waves by L.M. Elliott. HarperCollins/Tegen, $16.99 (320p) ISBN 978-0-06305-656-5. An infrequently explored aspect of WWII history—German submarines torpedoing U.S. cargo ships along America’s East Coast—underpins Elliott’s novel narrated by 13-year-old Louisa June, youngest of five in a loving, family in coastal Tidewater Virginia. The middle grade novel earned a starred review from PW.

Crab and Snail: The Invisible Whale by Beth Ferry, illus. by Jared Chapman. HarperAlley, $12.99 (64p) ISBN 978-0-06-296214-0. This inaugural title in a graphic novel series introduces two “best beach friends” who inhabit the surf zone—the definition of which is one of several bits of marine trivia worked into the story. Gómez captures the joys and sorrows of primary school, when a boy misses his school’s Dress-Up Day and decides to wear his costume to class the following day. Courage Hats by Kate Hoefler, illus. by Jessixa Bagley. Chronicle, $17.99 (48p) ISBN 978-1-79720-276-1. Mae and Bear don’t know each other, but they’re on the same multi-species train, and use their “courage hats” to bond over trepidation about their respective solo journeys.

Kiss & Tell by Adib Khorram. Dial, $18.99 (384p) ISBN 978-0-593-32526-1. Hunter Drake’s boy band starts an arena tour just as Hunter’s first relationship ends and his ex reveals intimate details about their sex life, placing him in spotlight over who he dates. The book for YA book earned a starred review from PW.

All from a Walnut by Ammi-Joan Paquette, illus. by Felicita Sala. Abrams, $18.99 (40p) ISBN 978-1-4197-5002-1. When a single walnut appears on Emilia’s nightstand one morning, her grandfather tells her “the best of stories” about the walnut he plucked from the tree outside his home, a story she reflects on after he dies. Hello, Puddle! by Anita Sanchez, illus. by Luisa Uribe. Clarion, $17.99 (40p) ISBN 978-0-358-38144-0. A poetic text delves into the intricacies of a puddle’s ecosystem in this picture book by Sanchez, which introduces a child who watches a local puddle over the seasons, observing its visitors, including bats, birds, insects, mammals, plant life, and toads and tadpoles. Ellen Outside the Lines by A.J. Sass. Little, Brown, $16.99 (336p) ISBN 978-0-7595-5627-0.
