How to Send a Hug by Hayley Rocco, illus. by John Rocco. Little, Brown, $17.99; ISBN 978-0-316-30692-8. A child who loves hugs and longs to hug their grandparents devises a plan to send loving embraces to those far away.

A Land of Books: Dreams of Young Mexihcah Word Painters by Duncan Tonatiuh. Abrams, $19.99; ISBN 978-1-41-974942-1. A Mexihcah child describes intricate wordless volumes created in Mesoamerica before the arrival of Europeans. The picture book received a starred review from PW.
