Hamilton star Phillipa Soo is partnering with her sister-in-law Maris Pasquale Doran and artist Qin Leng for her debut picture book, Piper Chen Sings, which will be published by Random House Studio on April 2, 2024.

Piper Chen Sings follows enthusiastic singer Piper, who loves to sing anytime and anywhere. When she’s offered a slot at her school’s talent show, Piper must overcome her stage fright to put on an unforgettable performance.

Piper Chen Sings is our first book, and Maris and I are so proud to share this heartwarming story with the world,” Soo said in a statement. “I hope Piper gives comfort to readers who may be navigating their own complicated feelings and inspires them to pursue the things in life that give them joy.”

Like her titular character, Soo overcame her fears to achieve a career onstage. Her performance on Broadway as Eliza in Hamilton, earned her a Grammy win and Tony and Emmy nominations. “This book comes straight from the heart and is inspired by my own life and experiences—a little girl who loves to sing, but is overwhelmed with nervousness about singing in front of others,” Soo said.

Lee Wade, v-p and publisher of Random House Studio, acquired world rights from Albert Lee at United Talent Agency and will edit the book.
