Random House Children’s Books will publish You and the Universe, a picture book by the late physicist Stephen Hawking and his daughter Lucy Hawking, with illustrations by Xin Li.
The posthumous picture book is an adaptation of Stephen Hawking’s 2018 Earth Day message, which was created after his death. The message contained original questions and answers inspired by his book for adults, Brief Answers to the Big Questions, and was beamed to the nearest black hole by a satellite.
The picture book, which is set for release on March 26, 2024, offers young readers insight on the environment and Earth Day.
“You and the Universe is an imaginative and inclusive book that brings my father’s extraordinary work in science to life for readers of all ages, beautifully illustrated by artist Xin Li,” Lucy Hawking said in a statement.
You and the Universe marks a new father-daughter project for the Hawkings. The pair previously collaborated on a middle grade series, George’s Secret Key to the Universe.
Senior executive editor Sara Sargent acquired world rights from Rachel Neumann at Idea Architects and Angharad Kowal Stannus at the Kowal Stannus Agency and will edit.
