Author, poet, and activist Amanda Gorman is set to publish a forthcoming picture book with Viking Children’s Books, an imprint of Penguin Young Readers. Girls on the Rise, illustrated by Loveis Wise, is scheduled for release on January 7, 2025.
Gorman’s newest venture is a picture book ode to girls and their strength, and highlights how young women have made an impact on history and will continue to do so in the future.
“I’m thrilled to be joining forces with the inimitable Loveis Wise on our new picture book, Girls on the Rise,” Gorman said in a statement. “I wrote the poem ‘We Rise’ in 2021 to celebrate the power we claim when we dare to raise our voices, and the response to it was overwhelming. I’m honored to have Loveis Wise’s gorgeous illustrations bringing this text to new life and readers everywhere.”
Tamar Brazis, VP and publisher of Viking Children’s Books, said in a statement, “Girls on the Rise is a rousing rallying cry that will inspire girls of every age to uplift one another and proudly be themselves.”
Gorman, who is the youngest presidential inaugural poet in U.S. history, has been an exemplar of her book’s title. Since her delivery of her poem “The Hill We Climb” four years ago, Gorman has gone on to write more works. including The Hill We Climb, Call Us What We Carry, and the picture books Change Sings and Something, Someday with Loren Long and Christian Robinson, respectively.
