Recently collaborators celebrated the launch of a picture book poem that will soon be in outer space, a book festival took place, an author spoke with local media, and a spooky launch was held for an author.


Shoot for the Stars

The National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., welcomed U.S. Poet Laureate Ada Limón (l.) and illustrator Peter Sís (r.) on October 5 for an event presenting their picture book collaboration, In Praise of Mystery (Norton Young Readers). The poem featured in the picture is etched on the Europa Clipper spacecraft, which is scheduled for launch soon to the second moon of Jupiter. Harbor Day

On September 28 the Harbor Springs Festival of the Book brought together several authors in Harbor Springs, Mich., for a day of bookish fun, including book signings and author panels. On Air

Nebraskan author Alena Bruzas made an appearance on Nebraska Public Media’s Friday LIVE program on to discuss her new YA novel To the Bone (Rocky Pond). The historical fiction book follows Ellis, who discovers the high tensions between colonialists and Indigenous residents in her new home of James Fort. Dark Tales

On September 24, author Leslie Lutz (r.) celebrated the release of her YA novel, Sweetest Darkness (Holiday House), with an event at Liberty Bay Books in Poulsbo, Wash. Lutz’s sophomore novel centers around teen clairvoyant Quinn, who is drawn to an abandoned hotel in his hometown of Gypsum, Tex. Fellow author Kendare Blake (l.) joined Lutz for a conversation about crafting haunting tales for young readers.
