Drew Daywalt and Oliver Jeffers are teaming up again for The Day the Crayons Made Friends, a new picture book featuring the crayon companions of The Day the Crayons Quit and The Day the Crayons Came Home. The book will be published by Philomel Books on June 3, 2025.
In the new installment to the series, Duncan’s crayons have once again abandoned their box, this time in search of making new friends, and each of the crayons sets off on their own adventures.
Oliver Jeffers said in a release, “We all need to make friends, and it seems the colorful sticks of wax in our kids’ art boxes are no exception.”
The Crayons were introduced in 2013 in The Day the Crayons Quit, in which they all decided to stop coloring; the book earned a starred review from PW, hit the New York Times bestseller list, received the E.B. White Read-Aloud Award, and was selected as one of Time magazine’s top 100 Children’s Books of All Time. Since their debut, the crayons have gone on to enjoy several more escapades from their box, with more than 10 installments added to the series.
Daywalt and Jeffers’s latest collaboration “is a peek into the toy chest of my childhood heart,” the author said. “I think when readers look inside, they’ll see that all of our childhood hearts are very much the same.”
