Jeff Kinney appeared on the Kelly Clarkson Show on February 27 to announce the 20th installment in his bestselling Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. Partypooper will be published on October 21 by Amulet Books, an imprint of Abrams Children’s Books.
In the new book, protagonist Greg Heffley expects that his family will throw him a big party for his birthday, but instead they’ve forgotten all about it. Greg takes the opportunity to throw himself a bash, with plans to leverage his parents’ mistake to ensure he gets everything he wants.
Kinney, who’s known for his out-of-the-box book events, plans to keep young readers on their toes for his forthcoming tour, with surprise parties and “fake school assemblies” in which students will sit through a fake presentation, only to have Kinney interrupt.
The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series has become a global sensation since debuting in 2007, and to date it has sold more than 300 million copies worldwide. Kinney has been named one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People in the World.
The new book will be available in hardcover and e-book by Abrams and in audio by Recorded Books and will be released simultaneously in 26 countries.
