On the last day of December, Spellbound Children’s Bookshop in Asheville, N.C., closed, but for good reasons. When it reopens on February 1, the seven-year-old children’s specialty bookstore will be in a larger space with more foot traffic and less rent. Its new quarters, inside a gallery featuring comics and art illustrations, ZaPOW, is also more complementary to its mission than its current one in a photography studio.
As owner Leslie Hawkins wrote on the front page of the store’s Web site, “The folks at ZaPOW are fabulous and we think that this partnership will be very positive for both our businesses and, most importantly, for our customers.”
Spellbound and ZaPOW are already planning events for young children and teens, as well as adults.
