HarperCollins Children’s Books is expanding with a new imprint for young readers, Quill Tree Books. The news comes on the heels of another imprint announcement, for the Native-focused Heartdrum. Both Quill Tree and Heartdrum will be helmed by v-p and editorial director Rosemary Brosnan.
Launching in fall 2020 with the motto “Many branches, Many voices,” Quill Tree will focus on publishing authors with a strong point of view, as well as those who are often underrepresented. Going forward, authors published by Brosnan’s editorial team—which includes executive editors Karen Chaplin, Alexandra Cooper, and Andrew Eliopulos; editor Alyssa Miele; assistant editors Bria Ragin and Courtney Stevenson; and editorial assistant Allison Weintraub—will be released under Quill Tree.
Brosnan told PW, “Ever since I started in the industry, I’ve published diverse authors and illustrators; that’s always been a passion of mine. And it’s also a mission of my wonderful editors, so that will be one focus of the imprint. We publish literary, award-winning books that have wide appeal, and we’ll be doing that under the umbrella of Quill Tree Books. We like books that have a fresh point of view, a strong narrative voice, and something worthwhile to say to young people.”
The Quill Tree launch list will feature picture books by Michael Chabon and Neil Gaiman, a graphic novel by Jerry Craft, a middle-grade novel by Saadia Faruqi, and YA novels by Z Brewer, Jessie Ann Foley, Anica Mrose Rissi, Neal Shusterman, and Nina Varela.
