This month, an author makes an appearance on Good Morning America; companies partner for a Dr. Seuss-inspired volunteer day; authors come together for a week-long event; and an author hosts a book launch with support from her community.
Yes We Did
Kelly Yang and her latest book, Yes We Will: Asian Americans Who Shaped This Country (Dial), were featured on Good Morning America on May 2. Yes We Will highlights 18 influential Asian Americans across spheres such as politics, entertainment, and science, and their contributions to their fields. The author spoke about dealing with anti-Asian sentiments today, how envisioning her children’s futures motivated her to write the book, and how she selected the figures she would focus on.
I Speak for the Trees!
In the spirit of Dr. Seuss’s nature-loving Lorax, Penguin Random House and Hudson River Park Friends partnered to host a corporate-wide volunteer day at Clinton Cove in New York City’s Hudson River Park. On April 27, 30 employees came together and collected debris to be composted and redistributed back into the park; picked up roughly 15 pounds of trash; and distributed mulch into the entry beds. The initiative was led by Random House Children’s Books’ Dr. Seuss team and the PRH Sustainability Subcommittee.
It’s Raining Authors
The 39th annual Authors in April took place during the week of April 25 in Rochester, Mich. The event included author visits and presentations from (l. to r.) Gennifer Choldenko, Erica S. Perl, James Burks, and Varian Johnson at local Rochester schools and an autograph party at the Rochester Hills Public Library.
Yu & Me & Winnie
Author Katie Zhao held her book launch for her middle grade fantasy Winnie Zeng Unleashes a Legend (Random House) at Yu & Me Books in Manhattan’s Chinatown on April 26. Zhao’s latest novel features rising sixth grader Winnie who, in an effort to outshine her rival, inadvertently awakens demons set on destroying the town and must embrace her own powers to stop them. Zhao (l.) is pictured here with Lucy Yu, owner of Yu & Me.
