Author and social-change advocate Christine Platt, also known as The Afrominimalist for her work highlighting new traditions of living with less, recently went on a tour to share her early readers series starter, illustrated by Alea Marley, Frankie & Friends (Walker Books US). Frankie, the daughter of a journalist, begins following in her mother’s footsteps by preparing her own broadcast with the help of her friends. Platt made seven stops across eight cities to discuss the new series; we’ve rounded up some highlights, including school visits and bookstore events.

Platt appeared at the Princeton Book Festival in Princeton, N.J., on October 7, and signed copies of her books for guests.

Country Bookshop Southern Pines, N.C., sponsored school visits that Platt made to Lillington-Shawtown Elementary School and Bennett Elementary School in N.C.

On October 14 Platt was joined by author Jason Reynolds for an event at East City Book Shop in Washington, D.C.

Students from Medlock Bridge Elementary School in Johns Creek, Ga., with Platt during her visit, which was sponsored by Decatur bookstore Brave + Kind.

Platt held an event with Mahogany Books at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library in Washington, D.C. Platt gave a reading from the book and discussed the protagonist’s budding interest in journalism.
