Recently, publishing staffers marked the release of a series addition, middle grade authors collaborated for a launch day celebration, an author made her debut, and researchers joined an author for an event highlighting wildlife.


Dog Man Saves the Day (Again)

Scholastic staff celebrated the launch of Dog Man: The Scarlet Shedder, the latest title in the bestselling Dog Man series by Dav Pilkey. In the 12th installment of the graphic novel series, Dog Man has been ousted from the city after being sprayed by a skunk, but makes his return to fight an army of A.I. robots.


A Middle Grade Match

On March 7, authors Kate DiCamillo (l.) and John Schu (r.) came together to celebrate the launch of their new middle grade novels from Candlewick, Ferris and Louder Than Hunger, respectively. The University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn. in partnership with local bookstore Red Balloon, welcomed the authors for an evening of conversation followed by a book signing.


Debuting with a Dragon

Napa Bookmine in Napa, Calif., welcomed Donna Lambo-Weidner for a storytime event for her debut picture book, There Are No Dragons in This Book, illustrated by Carla Haslbauer (NorthSouth) on March 8. In the book, young readers engage in a search for magical creatures to challenge the picture book’s title.


A ‘Wild’ Storytime

The Cornell Lab of Ornithology and Tomkins County Public Library in Ithaca, N.Y., held a “We’re All Ears for Elephants: A Mighty Muddy Us” storytime with the Elephant Listening Project on March 16. Author Caron Levis gave a reading of her picture book, A Might Muddy Us (Abrams) followed by a presentation on elephant behavior from researchers Sophie Trowbridge and Bobbi Estabrook.
