An Author Walks into a Bookstore…
Humor writer and essayist David Sedaris (r.) recently made a trip to Brooklyn bookstore Books Are Magic to sign stock of his debut picture book, Pretty Ugly (Toon), illustrated by the late Ian Falconer. Hoppy Holidays
On March 30, Sandra Magsamen attended an event at Northshire Bookstore in Manchester, Vt., to present her picture book Hoppy Easter, Honey Bunny! (Cartwheel). Magsamen gave a reading and led attendees in a sing-along.
A Joyful Exhibition
Busboys and Poets in Washington, D.C. held an Art Talk Tuesday on March 26 to highlight Rumi–Poet of Joy and Love (NorthSouth), a new picture book from Rashin Kheiriyeh (r.) that pays tribute to the Persian poet. The Girl Who Made Headlines
Minda Dentler made an appearance on CBS Mornings on March 28 to discuss her picture book The Girl Who Figured It Out (Sourcebooks Explore), illustrated by Stephanie Dehennin. The book highlights her experience as the first female wheelchair athlete to complete the Ironman World Championship triathlon. Dentler shared about the meaning behind the book’s title and how she got her start as an athlete. Here Dentler chats with co-hosts Tony Dokoupil (c.) and Nate Burleson (r.).
Festival Fanfare
The Poughkeepsie Book Festival took place on March 30 in New York, welcoming several authors including (from l.) Rebecca Gardyn Levington, Suzy Levinson, and Suzanne Morris, who shared their books with young readers.
A Debut Home Run
Sandra W. Headen celebrated the release of her debut middle grade novel Warrior on the Mound (Holiday House) with a launch at Quail Ridge Books on March 21. At the event, Headen gave a reading and signed copies. Set in 1935, the story follows Black baseball player Cato and his teammates after a scuffle with a white baseball team leads to a winner-takes-all match for use of the local baseball field.
