Authors Discuss Book Bans
On April 26, the Children’s Book Council hosted a panel at the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo titled “Keep Bans Off Our Books.” The panel featured (from l.) librarian and moderator Eti Berland, authors Kim Shearer, Chas! ‘Grateful’ to Be Here
Dianne White celebrated the release of her latest picture book, Finding Grateful, illustrated by Faith Pray (Chronicle), with an event at Changing Hands in Tempe, Ariz., on April 20. The picture book highlights how young readers can appreciate the small moments in life. White gave a reading to guests.
Full of Surprises
On April 27, Caldecott Honoree Elisha Cooper made an appearance at Three Lives & Company in New York City to share his new picture book Emma Full of Wonders (Roaring Brook). The picture book follows the titular canine’s growth. Here, Cooper draws sketches for attendees.
Flock Together
While on tour for her middle grade novel, The Secret Language of Birds (Delacorte), author Lynne Kelly visited South Hillsborough Elementary in Hillsborough, Calif., on April 15, in an event sponsored by Hicklebee’s children’s bookstore. In Kelly’s book, life for bird-lover Nina changes when she discovers a pair of endangered birds about to lay eggs in the marshes of her summer camp.
