Stephen Savage made a visit to Astoria Bookshop in Astoria, N.Y., on August 4 to give a reading of his new picture book Rescue Cat (Roaring Brook). The book follows a street cat named Butterscotch finding a home and deciding to rescue another animal in need. Present in the audience were members of LIC Feral Feeders, an organization dedicated to getting homeless cats off the streets, and their rescue kitten, Aslan. Storytime on the Go
The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, Mass., took its storytime program on the road with author Heidi E.Y. Stemple, who gave a reading of her new book, She Sells Seashells: Mary Anning, an Unlikely Paleontologist (Charlesbridge), at Amherst College's Beneski Museum of Natural History on July 30. The picture book, illustrated by Emily Paik, traces the life of Mary Anning, who is recognized today as the first paleontologist.
Read to the Beat
On July 30, musician and author Nandi Bushell dropped by the Upper West Side Barnes & Noble in New York City to share her new picture book The Life-Changing Magic of Drumming, illustrated by Andrea Stegmaier (Abrams/Magic Cat). The picture book traces Bushell’s early years discovering her passion for drumming and offers young readers advice on first steps to starting to learn to play the instrument. Bushell appeared in conversation with writer and editor Hank Shteamer and gave a live performance for the audience.

Bluestockings Cooperative Bookstore in New York City welcomed Chatham Greenfield (r.) for the launch of their debut YA romance Time and Time Again (Bloomsbury) on July 23. The novel follows Phoebe, who woke up on August 6 to find herself reliving the same day repeatedly until she meets Jess who encourages her to take advantage of the time loop. Greenfield was joined by fellow author Elle Gonzalez Rose (l.) for a conversation about romance, followed by a book signing.
