Recently, an author held a launch in New York City, a publisher celebrated the birthday of a late author, collaborators went on tour, and an author enjoyed an after party.

A ‘Killer’ Good Time

On March 20, Justine Pucella Winans (r.) held the New York City launch for their new YA novel How to Survive a Slasher (Bloomsbury) at Astoria Bookshop in Queens. The slasher centers on CJ, who after surviving two massacres in her town, receives a manuscript describing a killing spree that has yet to happen. Winans was joined in conversation by Astoria Bookshop bookseller and author Nino Cipri.

Remembering the Doctor

March 2 marked the birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel, aka Dr. Seuss, the beloved author behind children’s classics such as The Cat in the Hat, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, and many more. Random House Children’s Books commemorated the occasion with a series of virtual events with schools and libraries across the country, featuring various authors reading their own books and stories by Dr. Seuss. Here, Colleen AF Venable during her virtual presentation.

Know Your History

Collaborators Lauren Semmer and Rio Cortez recently went on a five-city tour to celebrate Women’s History Month and present their picture book The ABCs of Women’s History (Workman Kids). The book highlights influential women who have made an impact as artists, activities, librarians, and more. Here (clockwise, from top l.), Cortez and Semmer visit the Alice Paul Center for Gender Justice in Mount Laurel, N.J., where they gave a reading on March 15. Books were sold by local bookstore Inkwood Books.

Sweet Babe and Bubbe!

Following a launch event at the Montague Street location of Books Are Magic in Brooklyn on March 9, Robin Rosenthal (r.), celebrated the publication of her authorial picture book debut Sweet Babe!: A Jewish Grandma Kvells (Tundra) with an after party at restaurant Balaboosta. The picture book follows a Jewish grandmother admiring her grandbaby. Here, Rosenthal and fellow author-illustrator Selina Alko (l.) snap a selfie at the party.
