The Wonderfactory, a provider of large-scale web sites and apps for publishers and media companies, has partnered with Workman Publishing to create an iPad app for the bestselling travel book 1,000 Places to See Before You Die by Patricia Schultz.
The app is built on the just-released updated and expanded second edition of Schultz's book. It incorporates the book's curated content and voice, as well as over a thousand photos, both professional and user-generated. The app allows travelers to write reviews and suggest their own location-based travel tips. Sharing and community are integrated with the app, giving readers and travelers the ability to create profiles and wish lists, and view those created by friends.
The app also includes a map-based interface that allows geographic and thematic destination searches, provides detailed information on each destination, and recommends preferred times of year to travel. It is now available in the App Store for free for a limited time.
