Vermont-based digital publisher Green Mountain Digital, a creator of nature and outdoor lifestyle mobile apps, announced today a re-branding—the company will now be known as NatureShare. The move comes as the company also announces completion of a $1.5 million convertible note fundraising round. The funding was raised from new and previous angel investors, including a follow-on investment from the Vermont Center for Emerging Technologies’ Vermont Seed Capital Fund.
NatureShare, the publisher of the Audubon Guides mobile field guide series, created in partnership with the National Audubon Society, has doubled the number of registered users since the beginning of 2012, and tripled its installed base of downloaded apps to over 750,000. It is also developing a new social platform, and the latest round of funding will help launch that social platform by this fall as well as to expand its catalog of apps, and “to build out” its technology team, officials said.
“Since our founding, we’ve been dedicated to providing people who love the outdoors with innovative applications that enhance their appreciation of nature and wildlife,” said Brendan Cahill, CEO of NatureShare. “As NatureShare, we’ll be connecting people to the outdoors as never before, through a web and mobile community that will enable members to explore and share their experiences wherever they are.”
