The first day of the first Tools of Change for Publishing conference, organized by computer book publisher O'Reilly Media, was a festival of practical geekery, with in-depth sessions on everything from adding multimedia to e-books to making sure your books show up on Web search engines. Monday's sessions featured such publishing folk as Rebecca Goldthwaite, Thomson Learning's director of strategic partner relations; Niko Pfund, Oxford University Press v-p and academic and trade publisher; and Bill Rusin, W.W. Thursday, June 21st:Making the Old New Again at TOC

The first annual O'Reilly Tools of Change for Publishing conference brought together a little more than 400 digital and book publishing professionals for three days of intensive and often entertaining projections about the future of publishing in the digital era—not to mention the future form of the book itself. By and large they left San Jose, Calif., thoroughly satisfied with the first TOC and looking forward to the next one, planned to take place next year in New York City. Read On »
