Publishers are always searching for new readers. You’ve got the great books, but how can you find the fresh, undiscovered audiences you know would be interested in them? Tech companies have mastered the art of finding and reaching niche audiences for their content, products, and services. That art is the theme of the PubTech Connect panel “Reaching Your Next Audience: Risks, Rewards, and Memorable Moments From Marketing and Digital Leaders.”

In a spirited conversation moderated by Kim Kelleher, chief revenue officer and publisher of Wired Media Group, Kevin Heery of Time Inc., Tom Klein of Mailchimp, Sterling Proffer of Vice Media, and Chantal Restivo-Alessi of HarperCollins will share strategies on how they grew their audiences.

This is a digital dream team, five people who, between them, know all there is to know about growing audiences, reaching new customers, and expanding reach in the digital world. Their experience spans some of the biggest brands in the world, both old and new. They’ve helped their companies transition from print to digital, expand into new countries and new languages, and create products that are used by other businesses all over the earth.

Kevin Heery, Senior Vice President, Digital Media, Product & Platform Engineering of Time Inc., is known for his data-driven approach to making business decisions. In overseeing all digital roadmapping for Time’s various platforms, he trusts in the wisdom of his engineers and blogs about his business philosophy at squeakylean.com. Tom Klein came to Mailchimp as Chief Marketing Officer after a 20 year career in marketing for innovative companies and brands, such as Yahoo!, Intuit, and Heineken. He’s the author of Enterprise Marketing Management: The New Science of Marketing. Sterling Proffer, who was one of Forbes’ 2014 30 Under 30 honorees, joined Vice right out of college. He launched Vice’s YouTube channels, which reach millions, as well as Vice’s tech site Motherboard. Chantal Restivo-Alessi, who serves as Chief Digital Officer of HarperCollins, also oversees the company’s foreign language program as Executive Vice President, International, a post that HarperCollins CEO Brian Murray said, in his 2015 announcement of the post, requires “extensive coordination and the development of new processes.” Kim Kelleher, Chief Revenue Officer and publisher of Wired, has had a widely varied career in print and digital media, serving as the first female publisher of Sports Ilustrated and was made global publisher of Time magazine, integrating Time’s print and digital advertising departments.
