OverDrive this week announced the opening of a new office in Melbourne, Australia, in an effort to expand its presence in Australia, New Zealand and throughout the Asia Pacific region. OverDrive officials say the Melbourne office will provide “a hub for broadening relationships” throughout the region, including existing efforts in Singapore, Malaysia and Taiwan, and “partnerships” with publishers in China, and Japan.

The expansion comes after the acquisition of Booki.sh, the Australian e-book company, in March. In a statement, Claudia Weissman, vice president of international sales, said the Melbourne office will play “a vital role in the company’s strategic plans,” in the region, and demonstrates the company’s “commitment to serving our Asia Pacific partners and growing our business internationally.”
