Continuing to add support for a wide range of devices, Amazon is releasing a free Kindle reading application for the Android operating system. The software can be downloaded from the Android Marketplace and will allow users with multiple devices to access any previously purchased Kindle books and to synch the last page read of any book across all of their devices.

Besides operating on the Kindle 2 and the Kindle DX, Amazon’s Kindle e-book reader supports PC and Mac laptops and desktops, the iPhone, iPad and iPhone Touch and Blackberry. The software allows readers access on any of these devices to more than 620,000 e-book titles available through Amazon.com.

Dorothy Nicholls, director, Amazon Kindle, said “Customers can choose from a vast selection of books to read on their Android-powered phone, no matter where they are--on the bus, waiting for a cab, or in between meetings. Kindle for Android and the rest of the free Kindle apps are the perfect companions for readers who don’t have their Kindle with them or don’t yet own a Kindle.”
