Amazon is introducing the Kindle Oasis, a new, premium level Kindle high-resolution e-reader, designed to be thinner, lighter and ergonomically advanced. The new device is available for pre-order beginning today for $290 and will be available on April 27.
The new Kindle Oasis weighs less than 5 ounces and is designed for one-handed page-turning by either hand (the device can detect which hand is being used and rotate page-turning controls). The new device also includes a dual battery system that will power the device for more than a month of reading and comes with a high-res 300 ppi Paperwhite e-ink screen.
The Kindle Oasis is the eighth edition of Amazon’s Kindle e-reader line. The new reader joins the Amazon family of dedicated e-reading devices that includes the Kindle ($79.99), Kindle Paperwhite ($119.99), and the Kindle Voyage ($199.99).
Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos called the new Kindle Oasis a “sanctuary from distraction,” and said: "It’s the most advanced Kindle we’ve ever built—thin and ultra-lightweight, it gets out of the way so you can lose yourself in the author’s world.”
