Kyle Reads for HarperAudio
Taya Kyle, widow of American Sniper author Chris Kyle, will record her upcoming memoir American Wife: A Memoir of Love, War, Faith, and Renewal for HarperAudio. In the book, written with Jim DeFelice (also a coauthor of American Sniper), Kyle offers “never-before-told detail about the hours, days, and months after his shocking death, when grief threatened to overwhelm her,” according to the publisher. The audiobook goes on sale May 4 (Harper imprint William Morrow is releasing the book in hardcover).
Offerman Has ‘Gumption’
Actor Nick Offerman will be narrating his new book, Gumption: Relighting the Torch of Freedom with America’s Gutsiest Troublemakers, for Penguin Audio. Best known for his role as Ron Swanson on NBC’s Parks & Recreation, Offerman follows up his bestselling Paddle Your Own Canoe with a book that humorously highlights 21 figures from U.S. history that form Offerman’s personal pantheon of great Americans. From George Washington to Willie Nelson, he describes these “heroic figures and why they inspire such great meaning to him,” according to Penguin. He also gives his “personal opinions on topics he loves to talk about, such as religion, politics, woodworking and handcrafting, agriculture, creativity, philosophy, fashion, and, of course, meat.” The audiobook and hardcover (from Dutton), go on sale May 26.
Blackstone Fights Fair
Narrators Fiona Hardingham, Justine Eyre, and Steve West recorded the audiobook edition of Anna Freeman’s first novel, The Fair Fight, for Blackstone. Described by the publisher as The Crimson Petal and the White meets Fight Club, the novel is set in the world of female pugilists and their patrons in late-18th-century England. “This debut novel has been much anticipated in both print and audio, so we looked carefully for the perfect narrators to bring the three main characters of this unusual story to life,” said Blackstone. Blackstone will be releasing the audiobook on April 14 simultaneously with Riverhead’s hardcover publication of the title.
Bogosian in the Booth at Hachette Audio
Hachette Audio called on actor, playwright, and novelist Eric Bogosian to read his book Operation Nemesis: The Assassination Plot That Avenged the Armenian Genocide, a “nail-bitingly suspenseful account of the conspiracy of assassins that hunted down Turkish officials following the Armenian Genocide,” according to the publisher. Bogosian was a Pulitzer Prize finalist for his play Talk Radio and is the recipient of the Berlin Film Festival’s Silver Bear Award, as well as three Obie Awards and the Drama Desk award. The audiobook goes on sale April 21, the same day as the hardcover.
Bergen’s ‘Romance’ at S&S
Candice Bergen read her memoir A Fine Romance for Simon & Schuster Audio. The follow-up to her 1984 autobiography, Knock Wood, A Fine Romance, chronicles Bergen’s “marriage to a famous French director, the birth of her daughter, Murphy Brown, widowhood, falling in love again, and watching her daughter blossom,” per the publisher. The audiobook and hardcover went on sale on April 7.
