All 131 titles in The Baby-sitters Club, Ann M. Martin’s beloved middle-grade book series, originally published by Scholastic between 1986 and 2000, will be available as digital audiobooks exclusively from Audible on August 13 and can be pre-ordered now.
Actress Elle Fanning (Super 8, Maleficent) narrates the first five titles in the collection, beginning with Kristy’s Great Idea, and the remaining titles are voiced by a lineup of performers that includes Brittany Pressley, Ali Ahn, Emily Bauer, and Bahni Turpin. All 131 titles will be available at launch..
In a statement about the audio launch, Martin said, “I’m thrilled to see that the readership for The Baby-sitters Club continues to grow after all these years. And I’m grateful and honored to hear from fans—young and old—who have supported the series with such affection, love and nostalgia for all things BSC. I’m excited that Audible will bring the books to life in a new format for the next generation.”
For the uninitiated, BSC follows the lives and adventures of five best friends in the fictional town of Stoneybrook, Ct., who operate a local babysitting business. Over the years Martin’s original books spawned several spin-off series, including an ongoing—and bestselling—line of graphic novels from Scholastic/Graphix, as well as licensed merchandise, a 1990 TV series airing on HBO and Nickelodeon, and a 1995 feature film.
In February, Netflix announced its order for a 10-episode live-action series based on the books from producer Walden Media with Michael De Luca (The Social Network, Escape at Dannemora) as executive producer, Lucia Aniello (Broad City) as director and also executive producer, and Rachel Shukert (GLOW) as show runner. Author Martin will also serve as a producer.
