The six-book shortlist for the 2024 Booker Prize, which recognizes fiction published in the English language in the U.K. and/or Ireland, has been announced. The winner of this year's prize, which comes a £50,000 purse, will be announced on November 12 at an award ceremony held at Old Billingsgate in London.
The shortlisted titles for the 2024 Booker Prize are as follows:
- James by Percival Everett (American)
- Orbital by Samantha Harvey (British)
- Creation Lake by Rachel Kushner (American)
- Held by Anne Michaels (Canadian)
- The Safekeep by Yael van der Wouden (Dutch)
- Stone Yard Devotional by Charlotte Wood (Australian)
The shortlist includes five women authors—the largest number of women in the prize's 55-year history. Authors from five countries appear on the list, including the first Dutch writer to be shortlisted. Two of the authors has been previously shortlisted for the prize.
The finalists were chosen from the 13-book longlist by a judging panel comprising Sara Collins, Justine Jordan, Yiyun Li, Nitin Sawhney, and chair Edmund de Waal.
