After releasing John McCain's Hard Call in hardcover on August 2007, when the Arizona senator's run for the White House was unraveling, Twelve is hoping that the candidate's improved showing will prompt readers to take a second look at his book. The Hachette imprint is rushing a paperback edition of the book, releasing it on February 29, to coincide with McCain's meteoric rise in the primary race.

Twelve publisher Jonathan Karp acknowledged that the title didn't do as well as expected. (According to Nielsen BookScan, the book has sold 21,000 copies to date.) "Publishing the hardcover edition of Hard Call in August, just as John McCain's presidential campaign was being declared dead, was not a great decision on our part," said Karp, who added that the imprint now expects "a McCain surge among readers."
