Simon & Schuster's Touchstone imprint has struck a two-book deal with the doctors whose work was featured in the 2011 documentary, about the health benefits of a plant-based diet, Forks Over Knives. The first book in the deal, not yet titled and set for spring 2014, will offer a 21-day guide to transitioning to whole-food, plant-based diet. The second book, scheduled for spring 2015, will be a family cookbook.
The Forks Over Knives franchise has, to date, spawned two bestselling books: Forks Over Knives: The Plant-Based Way to Health and Forks Over Knives: The Cookbook. Both titles were published by The Experiment, but written by different collections of authors. None of the authors involved with these Forks Over Knives titles are involved in the current S&S deal.
The books Touchstone acquired will be written by Matthew Lederman, M.D., and Alona Pulde, M.D. (S&S said that the Lifestyle Change Program used in the documentary--which follows a group of people who conquer a host of illnesses by drastically altering their diet--was developed by Dr. Pulde.) In the acquisition, Stacy Creamer took North American rights to the titles from Andy McNicol at William Morris Endeavor.
