Pulitzer Prize winner Jennifer Egan has a new novel slated for publication on April 5, 2022. The Candy House was sold to the author's longtime publisher, Scribner, and is, the Simon & Schuster imprint said, the "sibling novel" to the author's award-winning 2010 A Visit from the Good Squad.
A Visit from the Goon Squad, which received a starred review from PW, won both the Pulitzer and a National Book Critics Circle award, and the new novel, which unfolds in and around New York City and San Francisco over the course of decades, involves, Scribner said, a cast of interconnected people and "an intricate plot." Its characters include a tech billionaire, record producers, aging rock stars, and an anthropologist, among others. The book also features a nation called X and overlaps, through characters and plot points, with A Visit from the Goon Squad.
Nan Graham, who bought North American rights to the novel from ICM Partners' Amanda Urban, called Candy House "a staggeringly prescient, funny, and hopeful novel from one of our most spectacularly brilliant writers.” She added that the book, like A Visit from the Goon Squad, shows its author's "stunning imagination," while celebrating "the human capacity to adapt, to create, to love."
