Quiet First Quarter for Books-A-Million
Revenue at Books-A-Million fell 1.9% in the first quarter ended May 2, 2015 compared to last year’s first period. Net loss at the chain was cut to $5.3 million, from $5.6 million.

Indigo Cuts Loss on 3% Sales Increase
Total revenue rose 3% at Indigo Books & Music in the year ended March 28, 2015 over fiscal 2014, and its net loss fell from $31 million last year to $3.5 million in fiscal 2015.

Books Inc. to Open in Silicon Valley, New Owners for Mystery Lovers
The California mini-chain will add its 12th location in July 2016 in Santa Clara. In Pittsburgh, Natalie Sacco and Trevor Thomas purchased the Raven Award-winning mystery bookshop.

March Bookstore Sales Rose 5.1%
After a sluggish first two months of 2015, bookstore sales rose a healthy 5.1% this past March over March 2014, according to preliminary estimates released by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Odegard Memorial Scheduled for May 14 in Minneapolis
A memorial service for former bookseller Dan Odegard will be held at Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Minneapolis on May 14 at 3 p.m. Odegard died on March 31.
