American Bookseller Association CEO Oren Teicher released an official statement on Odyssey Editions late yesterday afternoon, and, unsurprisingly, it isn't supportive of the Wylie Agency's endeavor. Teicher called Wylie's exclusive deal with Amazon "bad for the book industry and bad for consumers." He did make a nod toward the “multifaceted” and “complex” issues that digital publishing has presented to the industry, but, he stressed, “Diminishing the availability of titles and narrowing the options for readers can only harm our society in the long run.”

ABA's statement follows the reactions of Independent booksellers around the country. The organization's full statement is available in an article on ABA’s Web site.
