In a bid to boost book sales, Skylight Books in Los Angeles is giving away raffle tickets for signed limited edition prints by artist Dan Clowes (Ghost World, etc.) to any customer that spends more than $40 on books during the month of March.
“We had our first promotion of this kind in October with artist Adrian Tomine,” says Skylight bookseller Kevin Awakuni, “and it helped increase sales by quite a bit. This is also a way to give something back to our customers.” During the Tomine promotion the store gave away over 400 raffle tickets. The images for these promotions are donated by the artists, who also include graphic novelist Gabrielle Bell and comic book artist Seth, and are printed on 11x17” archival paper. Each one is numbered and comes with a certificate of authenticity. “We only have 15 of these prints made,” says Awakuni, “and give away 10, so once they’re gone they will never be available to the public again.”
