A six-alarm fire Sunday night at the historic Brooks House on Main Street in Brattleboro, Vt., brought firefighters from three states and closed The Book Cellar, one of several commercial tenants on the ground floor. Fire damage, smoke, and an estimated 1.8 million gallons of water, according to The Commons, have closed the building indefinitely. In a post this afternoon on its Facebook wall, owner Lisa Sullivan said that the store suffered “extensive” water damage. “We are all still assimilating this news and will let you know more as we know more,” she added. Sullivan also owns Bartleby’s Books in Wilmington, Vt.
