Just as Stan Madson and Phil Thompson promised, The Bodhi Tree Bookstore, which closed its doors after 41 years at the end of December, will be back. The metaphysical bookstore has been sold and will re-emerge near its former West Hollywood location on Melrose Avenue.

In an e-mail sent late last week to friends of the store, Madson and Thompson wrote, “Saying goodbye is difficult and sad. . . . All of us participated in a changing world that helped bring the old sixties ‘peace and freedom’ into literature that was even carried by Borders (may they rest in peace) and B and N (may they also rest). People’s lives were changed, usually for the better. Every generation needs a ‘New Age,” ours was joyous and wonderful with authors and gurus that stretched our thoughts and habits.”

There is no word yet on who the new owners are, but they have also purchased the BodhiTree.com Web site, which contains a note that online ordering has been suspended until “reincarnation.”
