Larry McMurtry is cleaning house, rather shop. The author-bookseller is auctioning off over 300,000 books, on August 10 and 11, at his Archer City, Tex., bookstore, Booked Up, in an event he has dubbed 'The Last Book Sale.' The event--its title is a nod to McMurtry's 1966 novel (which he also adapted for the screen), The Last Picture Show--is being overseen by Addison & Sarova Auctioneers, and will allow collectors to purchase titles from one the largest book collections in the country.

The sale, though, is not the end for Booked Up. After 'The Last Book Sale,' McMurtry will still have over 160,000 titles in stock.
