Six-year-old WORD in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn is looking to expand across the Hudson late this spring with a new bookstore/cafe in Jersey City, N.J., next to the Grove Street PATH station. Owner Christine Onorati hadn’t originally planned to open a second store, but has family in Jersey City and has watched the area change and grow.

“I have been incredibly excited by the response we’ve received in just the last few months we’ve been talking about it,” she says. “We’re still in the early stages of planning, but I envision the book curation to be very similar to what we have in Greenpoint with an expanded gift selection for kids. The cafe will serve double duty as event space so that we can host a thriving literary event calendar as we do in Brooklyn. I have very high hopes for this new store, and I’m excited to help foster the vibrant, literary, community-focused spirit of Jersey City.”
