The La Quinta Resort and Club near Palm Springs, Calif. will be the location of the Southern California Independent Booksellers Association’s first annual Reading Retreat from July 26 – 28.
“It really is an opportunity to relish the things booksellers love best, reading and community,” says Andrea Vuleta, executive director of SCIBA. Designed to allow attendees to relax, read what they want, and celebrate those books with other booksellers during cocktail hour in a luxurious setting, Vuleta says that the retreat will be intentionally unprogrammed so that SCIBA members can simply relax. Booksellers, publishers, and significant others are invited to attend. “So many of our activities are programmed and directed,” says Vuleta, “that we rarely take the time to celebrate the most joyous part of our jobs.”
“This is the off-time at this spectacular resort because of the desert heat in the summer months,” Vuleta says. “Room rates are especially low."
