Vroman’s Bookstore in Pasadena has promoted longtime staffer Allison Hill to CEO effective immediately.
Hill started working for Vroman’s in March 2004 as general manager. She was previously general manager of Book Soup in West Hollywood, and also worked at Waterstone’s as a bookseller. Vroman’s promoted Hill to general manager/vice president in February 2007, and again six months later to president chief operating officer.
She has had responsibility for all aspects of the bookstores and has been responsible for the CEO duties, including the acquisition of Book Soup in 2009. In addition, Hill is a contributing editor for the Huffington Post book section.
She is a former member of the ABA Bookseller Advisory Council and a cofounder of the former Emerging Leaders Project, a national effort to develop and mentor young professionals in the bookselling industry. “Since 2008 Allison has had responsibility for all aspects of the bookstores, and really acted as CEO,” says Joel Sheldon, former CEO of Vroman’s and now chairman of the board. “I believe her integrity, commitment, and leadership are unsurpassed. Allison is clearly the person to lead Vroman’s into the future.”
