Workman Publishing has launched a campaign to encourage readers to buy books from their local independent bookstore this holiday season, under the slogan. "Shop Local NOW, So You Can Shop Local FOREVER,"
The campaign has several parts. First is a social media campaign on YouTube featuring a series of videos with authors asking readers to buy books from local bookstores this holiday season. Authors who are participating include Julia Alvarez, Thomas Keller, Amy Timberlake, Kelly Barnhill, Tracey Baptiste, Austin Kleon, Margaret Roach, Grace Bonney, Edward Lee, Yamile Saied Méndez, Kaitlyn Greenidge, Peace Adzo Medie, Gabriel Bump, Jessamyn Stanley, Adam Rutherford, and Terry Virts. Workman is making the videos available for download or to use the YouTube links to post the videos to their store’s social media channels.
The publisher is also offering stores an archival frameable art print with artwork from Skunk and Badger by author Amy Timberlake and art by Jon Klassen (Algonquin Young Readers) and the quote “A spot of light, a good book, and off I go." Stores can request a bundle of 75 prints from the publisher. In addition, Workman has signage available for stores.
"We are honored to partner with our authors, all of whom are leaders in their fields, to champion the message that independent bookstores are a vital part of our culture," said Liz Hunter, Workman's associate director of field sales. "We hope this campaign inspires consumers to take action to support local businesses this holiday season and beyond.”
