Fall 2007 Xeric Winners
The Fall 2007 Xeric grant winners have been announced: Colleen Frakes, Geoff Grogan, Corinne Mucha, Lars Martinson, and Jaime Portillo. A total of $26, 548 was awarded to the five comic projects. The next deadline for grant applications is March 31, 2008, and the next review date is May 1, 2008. More information on the Xeric Grants can be found at the Xeric website.

Jimbo’s Wins American Book Award
Gary Panter’s Jimbo’s Inferno, an adaptation of Dante’s Inferno, has been awarded the American Book Award by the Before Columbus Foundation. Approximately fifteen books are awarded this prize each year to recognize literary excellence; there are no restrictions on the books chosen to reflect the diversity of the American literature. This is the second Fantagraphics graphic novel to win this award. Joe Sacco’s Palestine won in 1996.

2008 MoCCA Exhibitor Applications
Exhibitor guidelines and applications for the 2008 Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art Festival are available to download at MoCCA’s website. The 2008 MoCCa Art festival will be held on June 7-8 at the Puck Building in New York City. MoCCA began accepting and processing the new applications on November 1, 2007. Applicants should submit the forms as soon as possible, since half the space is already filled by returning exhibitors.

Viz Licenses Shojo Movies
Viz Pictures, the affiliate of Viz Media that licenses Japanese Live Action movies, has licensed four movies based on Shojo manga titles: Honey and Clover, Love.Com the Movie, Nana, and Nana 2. Honey and Clover will be released in select theaters in December. Love.com the Movie will be released directly to DVD in February 2008. Nana will be released theatrically in early 2008, and Nana 2 will be released in theaters in the spring of 2008. Honey and Clover, Love.com the Movie, and Nana will have premiere screenings at the New York Anime Festival, which is being held in New York City December 7-9, 2007. Dinosaurs Across America in NYC
Phil Yeh, author of Dinosaurs Across America, will be signing his book, published by NBM, at Books of Wonder in New York City. Books of Wonder is located near Union Square at 18 West 18th Street; Yeh’s signing will be on Saturday December 1, 2007, from Noon to 2 PM. Dinosaurs Across America has been reprinted eight times; a new hardcover, full color edition was released in August.
