New Zuda Winner
The latest winner of the Zudacomics competition has been announced, High Moon, written by David Gallaher, with art by Steve Ellis. The comic was chosen by fans online, and will now become an ongoing series. Zuda is the webcomics forum of DC comics.

Party with the CBLDF
Throughout December, the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund is hosting parties in New York City and around the country to thank its supporters. The CBLDF Holiday membership parties will featuring comics stars, gifts,, door prizes, auctions and much more. Admission to all parties is freefor all CBLDF members, or for anyone who wants to join on the spot. The first party is December 10 at the Village Pourhouse and guests will include: Kyle Baker, Moby, Paul Pope, Alex Maleev, Rick Spears, Dean Haspiel, Molly Crabapple, Dan Goldman, Josh Neufeld and many more. Comic Book Idol at NYCC
New York Comic-Con is providing an all expenses paid trip to the convention for the winner of the 2007 Comic Book Idol 3 Contest winner, Jon Reed, an accounting assistant from Alexandria, VA. At the convention comic book writer and host of Comic Book Idol J. Torres will introduce Reed to industry leaders. Reed will also receive assignments from IDW publishing, Oni Press, and Image Comics. Comic Book Idol is administered and hosted by Comic Book Resources. Also, New York Comic Con announced it is offering free registration to all professional creators; the deadline for this offer is December 1st. New York Comic-Con will be held April 18 — 20, 2008 at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City.

Cosplay and Gaming at NYAF
At the New York Anime Festival, the winners of the cosplay Masquerade will receive a free trip to Japan in the summer of 2008 to represent the United States in the World Cosplay Finals; the New York Anime Festival is the only American anime convention approved to take part in the World Cosplay Summit. Also, the NYAF has partnered with New York—Tokyo, a media communications company, to set up a gaming arcade and series of gaming tournaments at the convention. The arcade will feature numerous games from Japanese publishers, some which have yet to be released in the United States. In addition to the arcade, there will be three fighting game tournaments involving the games Virtua Fighter 5, Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection, and The King of Fighters XI. Women, Todd Klein at The Beat
Heidi MacDonald at PWThe Beat has posted several links that explore what woman are doing in comics these days. The Beat takes a look at the New York Time' s profile of Wonder Woman writer Gail Simone and at the first year of DC's comics imprint for teen girls, Minx. The Beat also takes a look at a print project by Alan Moore and designed and lettered by Todd Klein, Alphabets of Desire.

Comic Book Club Discussion
Alex Robinson and Rick Spears will be holding a discussion with the Comic Book Club at the People's Improv Theater on December 4th at 8 PM; admission is $5. The theater is located at 154 W. 29th Street in New York City. More information can be found at the theater's website.

Fundraiser for Bill Mantlo
A non-profit fundraiser to benefit cartoonist Bill Mantlo, the creator of ROM Spaceknight, will be held Thursday December 6th from 6 to 10 PM at Floating World Comics in Portland, Or. The show will feature over a hundred illustrations by contributors, which includes Renee French, Jeffery Brown, Jim Rugg, Jeff Parker, Peter Thompson, and many others. There will be a silent auction held for the original art, and 11x17 prints will be given for a donation of $5 or more. Bill Mantlo was injured in hit and run car accident in 1992, and he resides in a brain injury rehabilitation nursing home. The art work from the show will be compiled into a tribute comic book; the profits from this book will go to Bill Mantlo's brother and caregiver, Mike Mantlo. Jason Thompson Speaks
Jason Thompson, author of Manga: The Complete Guide, will give a presentation and sign books at the Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco, CA on December 6th.
