Ignatz Award Nominees
The 2007 Ignatz Award nominees have been announced. The awards will be presented during SPX on October 13th at 9:00 PM. A full list of the nominees can be found at the SPX website.
Mike Wieringo Tribute
An event in honor of the late Mike Wieringo will be held Wednesday September 19 at Flatiron Joe’s at 29 West 21st Street between 5th and 6th Avenue in New York City. The event is sponsored by Newsarama and ebay Auction. Numerous artists will be there to do sketches which fans can purchase, and there will be an auction of art by Francis Manapul, Frank Cho and Brandon Peterson, Jeremy Dale, Tom Beland, Paul Renaud and Nate Lovett. All proceeds will be donated to The Hero Initiative and ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), according to the wishes of Mike Wieringo’s family.
Naruto Movie Sweepstakes
Viz Media and Langer Juice Company are cosponsoring a sweepstakes, which coincides with the release of the Naruto the Movie: Ninja Clash in the Land of the Snow. The sweepstakes, which began in early September, offers the chance to win a $100 dollar gift certificate to the Viz Media store; secondary prizes include DVD’s and Naruto key chains. To enter the Naruto sweepstakes, one can register through the Langer’s website.
Zannel.com, Top Cow Team Up
Mobile media messaging provider Zannel, Inc. and Top Cow Productions have teamed up to create a channel featuring Top Cow images, wall papers and videos that can be downloaded to mobile phones and shared. Top Cow titles such as Wanted, Witchblade, Aphrodite IX, Madame Mirage, The Darkness and more will be featured on the Top Cow channel.
Beto, Malkasian at Book Soup
Acclaimed comics artist and co-creator of Love & Rockets Gilbert Hernandez (Chance in Hell) and animator/comics artist Cathy Malkasian (Percy Gloom) will be signing books at L.A.’s Book Soup, September 25.
