Nee Rises at DC Comics
John Nee has been promoted to senior v-p of business development at DC Comics. Nee will report directly to DC Comics president and publisher Paul Levitz. Nee joined DC in 1998 as VP, general manager of Wildstorm. In 2004 Nee lead the launch of CMX, DC's manga imprint. In his new position Nee will continue to expand DC's business with international publishing, videogames, and media initiatives through Warner Brothers Entertainment.

New York Anime Festival Guests
The New York Anime Festival announced guests for the event. Guests include web cartoonists Chris Hazelton and Juno Blair B; anime illustrator Lindsey Henninger, otaku comedian Uncle Yo and the late night otaku Talk show GeekNights. Previously announced are guest of honor and Evangelion director Kobun Shizuno, film historian and author David Kalat and actor and samurai sportsman Yoshi Amao. Demo Rights Revert
Writer Brian Wood and artist Becky Cloonan announced that they have regained all media and publishing rights for their comic series Demo and are in the process of getting the book republished. The trade paperback collection of the series was originally published by AIT/ Planet Lar. Brian Wood stated, regarding the rights change, that they are attempting "to reach as many people as possible" and are "currently exploring options and offers from other publishers with that goal in mind."

30 Days of Night Movie To Open
The movie adaptation of the graphic novel 30 Days of Night is being released from Sony Pictures on October 19th. The comic, about a small Alaskan town overrun with vampires, was originally published as a mini-series from IDW Publishing in 2002; it was written by Steve Niles with art by Ben Templesmith. The movie is directed by David Slade and stars Josh Hartnett. Zuda Contracts Online
The publishing contracts for web comics creators who submit work to Zuda, the new DC Comics user generated webcomics initiative, have been posted at the Zuda Comics website. There are three contracts posted which deal with submitting work to Zuda. The Zuda site is scheduled to launch in October.

Wieringo Tribute Raises $4K
The memorial/ fundraiser for the late comics artist Mike Wieringo held last Wednesday, raised $4000 for the Hero Initiative and ASPCA. There is a new eBay auction of Mike Wieringo tribute pieces for these two charities; eight pieces are being auctioned, featuring signature characters from Wieringo's series Tellos. The items being auction can be found at the eBay auction site.

24 Hour Comics Day 2007
This year's 24 Hour Comic Day will be held on October 20, 2007. The 24 Hour Comic Day is an annual event in which artists attempt to complete a twenty-four page comic in twenty-four hours. The event was originated by comics artists and theoretician Scott MaCloud and artist Steve Bissette in 1990. Top Comics of the Year 5767
Heeb magazine, a downtown New York satirical magazine, has announced its top comics of the Jewish year 5767. Nick Bertozzi's The Salon was ranked number one. The full list can be seen at Heeb's website.
