New Yorker Laughs
The New York Historical Society and Scribner are holding an event to celebrate the publication of the book Last Laughs: Cartoons About Aging, Retirement...and the Great Beyond. New Yorker cartoonists Mort Gerberg, editor of Last Laughs; Marisa Acocella Marchetto (Cancer Vixen), and Jack Ziegler will be in attendance. The event will be Tuesday November 6; the doors open at 6 PM and the program is from 6:30 -7:30 PM. A book signing and cocktails will follow the program.

Lookin’ Good Cap
Marvel.com has posted a new trailer examining the evolution of Captain America's costume, Captain America: Through the Ages. The trailer promotes the new Captain America costume designed by Alex Ross, debuting in January's Captain America #34. Also, up on Marvel.com is an interview with Alex Ross, Ed Brubaker, and Steve Epting.

Harper Gets Strange
HarperCollins has acquired world rights to publish four illustrated young adult prose novels based on the Emily the Strange character created by Rob Reger. The books were acquired by HarperCollins Children’s Books executive editor Anne Hoppe. With millions of fans around the world, the odd-ball teen girl character is the subject of extensive apparel merchandising, a quarterly comic book series from Dark Horse and 4 graphic novels from Chronicle Books. Emily the Strange will also be the subject of a forthcoming feature film from 20th Century Fox.

Monsters at MoCCA
A new exhibit, “Things That Go Bump" is opening at The Museum of Comics and Cartoon Art on Saturday October 13th. The exhibit focuses on iconic monsters and their role in comics and cartoons, and will feature art from Gene Colon, Dick Giordano, Tania del Rio, Mike Mignola, and many others. The exhibit will remain open through March 17th, 2008. A fundraising party and masquerade, coinciding with MoCCA's 6th anniversary will be held at the museum on Saturday October 27th; there will also be a closing party for the exhibit around St. Patrick's Day. Marvel in Spanish
Marvel is publishing two of its bestselling book collections—Ultimate X-Men Vol. 1 by Mark Millar; and Ultimate Spider-Man Vol. 1 by Brian Michael Bendis—in Spanish-language editions in March of 2008. Both books collect the first 12 issues of the periodical series. Diamond will distribute the titles through the bookstore and the comics shop market.

Special Edition Palestine
To celebrate the publication of Palestine: The Special Edition by Joe Sacco, Fantagraphics is exhibiting some of Sacco's original artwork at the Fantagraphics Gallery and Bookstore in Seattle, Wa. There will be an opening reception for the exhibit on October 26th from 7 to 9 PM. Also, there will be a discussion with Joe Sacco on October 27th from 2 to 3 pm.
