Bande Dessinée and Comics Roundtable
The French Publishers’ Agency and La Maison Francaise of New York University are hosting a roundtable discussion entitled “From Bande Dessinée to Graphic Novel: Drawing Two Traditions Together” on November 10 from 12:30 — 2:30 p.m. Panelists will include Dan Frank, editorial director of Pantheon Books, Mark Siegel, editorial director of First Second Books, comics historian Thierry Groensteen and Sylvain Coissard of the Sylvain Coissard Agency among others. Lunch will be offered and the event is free to the general public, but an RSVP is required by November 6 in order to attend. The event will be hosted at La Maison Francaise of New York, located at 16 Washington Mews on the corner of University Place, New York, NY. An evening reception for the French participants will take place from 6:30 —8:30 p.m. at the French Publishers’ Agency located at 853 Broadway, suite 1509, between 13th and 14th Street, New York, NY.
Political Cartooning in New York City
The New York Center for Independent Publishing will be putting on a panel entitled “Political Cartooning in New York City” about the history of political cartooning in New York City, from Boss Tweed to the present day. Panelists will include Spy vs. Spy cartoonist Peter Kuper, New Yorker cartoonist Eric Drooker, New York Times contributor and cartoonist Tim Kreider, SVA faculty member and cartoonist Tom Hart and Parsons faculty member Bill Kartalopoulos. The event takes place today, November 3, beginning at 6:30 p.m, in the historic General Society of Mechanics and Tradesmen building at 20 West 44th Street, New York, NY. Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for members and $5 for students.
Mike Mignola Named Guest of Honor at C2E2
Hellboy creator Mike Mignola will be a Guest of Honor at Reed Exhibition’s new pop culture convention C2E2, which is being launched April 16—18, 2010 at Chicago’s McCormick Place Convention Center. Mignola joins cartoonists Jeff Smith, Alex Ross and others who will attend as Guests of Honor at the inaugural comics/pop culture show in Chicago.
Dr. Sketchy’s Does Secret Identity
Dr. Sketchy’s Life Drawing will co-host an event based on Craig Yoe’s hit book Secret Identity: The Fetish Art of Superman's Co-Creator Joe Shuster on November 7 from 4 - 7 p.m. at The Slipper Club. The model Darenzia will portray poses inspired by the book. In addition Craig Yoe, author of the book, will be in attendance signing his work. Admission is $10 in advance, $12 at the door.
