Alan Moore Live in Concert

Comics legend Alan Moore, creator of V for Vendetta, Watchmen and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, will perform in a musical event based upon his novella “Unearthing” in the tunnels under London's Waterloo railway station alongside musical actors playing his characters Crook and Flail. “Unearthing”, which was published in London: City of Disappearances, also has an upcoming independent film and a concert album in box set form based upon it. The live performances will take place on July 29 and 30 at 8 p.m. And 8:30 p.m. respectively. Tickets and further information is available here.

Scott Pilgrim Vol. 6 Midnight Party Craze

The much anticipated sixth and final volume of comics creator Bryan Lee O'Malley's beloved independent comic Scott Pilgrim, soon to be a movie from Edgar Wright starring Michael Cera, has inspired midnight release parties across the country ala the Twilight and Harry Potter novels. On the evening of Monday, July 19, stores in Oregon, Arizona, North Carolina and California among many others will open their doors to late night customers eager to get their hands on the new book. Lee O'Malley himself will be appearing at a midnight release party at Toronto comics shop The Beguiling.

In yet another case of life imitating comics, an unidentified woman committed a successful theft while wearing a cat mask. This criminal mastermind stole $86 from a shoe store and is still at large.

This Week @ Good Comics For Kids

This week School Library Journal’s blog Good Comics for Kids covered the winners of the Toon Books prize, had a review of the Frankie Pickle series, offered a listing of the ALA panel core titles for kids, the Good Comics For Kids summer reading list, the 6/30 listing of comics suitable for all ages and a Rascals and Tricksters themed links roundup from Brigid Alverson.

This Week @ The Beat

This week PWCW editor Heidi MacDonald’s blog The Beat covered the shutdown of DC's webcomic imprint Zuda, Wonder Woman's controversial new backstory and costume change as well as a history of Wonder Woman comic covers, Andrew Garfield – the new Spider-Man, two documents important to comics history – the Vince Colletta letter (in which he defends former Marvel head Jim Shooter in an explicit and profane fashion) and the recently unearthed (probably authentic) DC vs. Victor Fox Eisner court transcript in which many of the comics greats of the Golden Age testified about their work and she also hosted the next installment of movie critic Todd Alcott's “The Alcott Analysis” series in which he analyzes all of the Batman movies – this one covering Batman Forever.
