After seven years, Craig Thompson (Blankets) has released his new graphic novel: Habibi, a 672-page exploration of love, passion, storytelling, and the intersection of Islam, Christianity and Judaism. These themes are eplored via the relationship between Dodola, a child bride turned prostitute turned harem wife; and Zam, an escaped slave. Their love for each other overcomes, time, distance and terrible struggles. Using his lush pen line, Thompson explores the use of Islamic calligraphy and iconography. In this 9 page excerpt, Dodola is married to a much older man who is a scribe. Habibi is in book stores and comics shops now.
