5/5-5/6 Toronto Comics Art Festival (TCAF) in Toronto, Canada

On May 5 and 6, the 2012 Toronto Comics Art Festival will take place in Toronto. A creator-based con focusing primarily on independent comics, the show will feature such comics creator guests as Alison Bechdel, Bryan Lee O'Malley, Kate Beaton, Jeff Smith, Pendelton Ward and Gabriel Ba among many others. The 2012 Toronto Comics Art Festival will be held at the Toronto Reference Library at 789 Yonge Street, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Hours are 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.

5/5 Free Comic Book Day, National Event

Saturday, May 5, is Free Comic Book Day. To celebrate and share the joy of comics, Marvel, DC, Disney, Archie, Dark Horse, Image and a host of independent publishers are offering a special selection of comics available for free at comic stores across the globe for one day only. Many of these comics, such as The Smurfs & Disney Fairies, The Superman Family, Spongebob / Bongo Comics andYo Gabba Gabba are suitable for all ages, although there is also a healthy selection of more mature titles. To take part, simply go to your local participating comic shop - easily findable through this search engine - and request your free comic. Many comic book stores will be hosting events and comics signings to celebrate the day, and a listing of notable signings is available at the official site. No purchase is necessary. 5/5-5/6 Latino Comics Expo & La Raza Comica Exhibit at the Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco

On May 5 and 6, the 2012 Latino Comics Expo will take place at the Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco. A small creator-based con focusing comics by and for Latinos from indie zines to mainstream books and graphic novels, the show will feature such comics creator guests as Javier Hernandez, Gabrielle Gamboa, Isis Rodriguez and Jaime Crespo among many others. Entrance is free with admission to the Cartoon Art Museum. In coordination with the convention, the museum will host La Raza Comica, a new exhibit celebrating Latino comics, featuring original works by Spain Rodriguez, Lalo Alcarez, Jose Cabrera and many others. The Cartoon Art Museum is located at 655 Mission Street, San Francisco, CA.
